A few things worth checking first: is the boiler getting power, is there oil in the tank, and on a gas combi, has the pressure dropped below 1 bar? If you smell gas, turn off the gas at the meter, open the windows and call the Gas Networks Ireland emergency line on 1800 20 50 50.

It's usually a leak somewhere in the system or a faulty pressure relief valve. It needs looking at rather than topping up over and over.
